Frozen Toes

Rode an easy 16 miler this morning shortly after dawn. I love riding early in the morning. No cars, no dogs, and, mercifully, very few families on the bike path.

I love to see kids and moms and dads out for a ride, don't get me wrong. But most of the time, they're hazardous to ride around.

Anyway, I went out on my new favorite loop that takes me past two of the city's lakes, right along the lakeshore and then through the University Arboretum. I passed a bunch of fishing boats heading out as the sun crested the trees on the opposite end of the lake. Mist started rising off the water and there was a gentle breeze. The arboretum felt primordial - mists, trees arching over the road filtering the weak morning sun. All in all, a great ride.

The only downside? No booties to cover my shoes. When it's 47 degrees and you're traveling 17 or 18 mph, the windchill can really getcha. My poor toes are just now thawing out!
